The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) proposes the idea of a National Day on Writing to celebrate and promote writing in all its forms.
2009
US Senate Approval
The US Senate officially recognizes October 20 as the National Day on Writing, responding to the NCTE's proposal a year earlier.
2010
First Public Celebration
Schools, universities, libraries, and community centers across the country host the first public celebration for the National Day on Writing.
2012
#WhyIWrite Campaign
The NCTE launches the #WhyIWrite campaign on social media, promoting discussions about the importance of writing.
2016
Expansion of the Celebration
