Since then, every third week of May, communities come together to express their gratitude for these amazing professionals. Kicking off an exciting week of activities, events, and of course, giving thanks for their unyielding bravery and dedication, this is one National celebration that truly resonates in the heart of every community! First EMS Week
President Gerald Ford authorized the first "Emergency Medical Services Week" to acknowledge the vital contributions of EMS practitioners and their role in public health.
1982
Establishment of NHTSA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was established as a federal body to oversee and improve EMS services nationwide.
1992
Recognition of EMS Specialties
EMS specialties such as Critical Care Transport, Flight Paramedics, and Tactical EMS were recognized, highlighting the growing diversity in the field.
2004
National EMS Memorial Service
