Introduction

June 1 marks the beginning of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the debilitating disease that affects so many people around the world. This month is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of brain health and how to recognize signs of Alzheimer’s. It was first established in 1983 by a group of support organizations who wanted to create a platform for raising awareness and funds for research into finding effective treatments and cures for Alzheimer’s. So join us this month in taking steps toward making a positive impact on those living with Alzheimer’s today!

Why Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is Important

A

Alzheimer's is a growing problem

Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and the number of Americans affected by this devastating illness is increasing each year. By raising awareness of its symptoms and causes, we can work together to find better treatments, diagnostic methods and ultimately a cure for the disease.

B

Brain health affects our quality of life

We all want to live happy, healthy lives, but as we age our brains often slow down and don't function like they used to. That's why it's important to take steps throughout life to safeguard our brain health - from eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep to maintaining social connections and staying mentally active.

C

Awareness leads to education & support

By increasing awareness of Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases, we can provide much needed education and emotional support to those affected. Education helps us understand more about the causes, symptoms and treatments available. It also helps us better recognize signs in ourselves or loved ones so we can get the help and support that are needed quickly and effectively.
