New River Gorge Bridge Completion
The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, USA, the future site of the Bridge Day celebration, was completed.
1980
First Official Bridge Day
The first official Bridge Day was held on the New River Gorge Bridge, celebrating its construction and the engineering achievements it represents.
1981
Bridge Day BASE Jumping Begins
BASE jumping was permitted for the first time as part of the Bridge Day celebrations, drawing adrenaline junkies to the event.
1993
Bridge Day Expansion
The festivities expanded to include music, food, and various exhibitions celebrating the bridge and the broader world of civil engineering.

Bridge Walk Tour Addition
