Introduction

Buckle up for an exciting week as we celebrate National Health Center Week on August 4! Initiated back in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson's War on Poverty, community health centers were established to provide accessible healthcare to underserved areas. Today, they continue to remain pillars of strength and a beacon of hope for millions of people around the world. This is the perfect opportunity for us to pay tribute to our brave health warriors and recognize their vital role in keeping our communities bright, strong and healthy. How to Celebrate National Health Center Week

1

Organize a local health fair

Get together with local health care providers and health-related organizations to hold a community health fair. Families can learn about and access services, get wellness checks, and connect with resources.

2

Host a virtual fundraising event

Create a virtual event that asks community members to contribute funds to support your local health center. This could be a fun run/walk, bake sale or talent show. Highlight how the funds will be used to enhance community health services.

3

Schedule educational webinars or workshops

Host webinars or workshops on various health topics. This could include diet and nutrition, exercise routines, mental health, preventative medicine, etcetera. These serve to educate and empower the community to take charge of their health.

4

Start a wellness challenge

Challenge your constituents to a week-long health challenge. This could include exercising every day, drinking plenty of water, or aiming for a certain number of steps. A challenge can increase accountability and foster a community bond.

5

Recognize health center staff

Set aside a day to honor the hardworking staff and volunteers at your health center. You could create a recognition wall where community members can leave notes of gratitude, organize a small celebration or give each team member a token of appreciation.

Why National Health Center Week is Important

A

National Health Center Week Honors Health Care Workers

This special week provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the front-line health care workers who brave the toughest conditions to deliver crucial care. They are the heroes in our communities and offering them our gratitude and respect is truly the least we can do.

B

Promotes Public Awareness of Health Issues

National Health Center Week is not only about recognizing medical staff but also about increasing public awareness on various health issues. From education on prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, this week serves as a platform to shape healthier communities.

C

Galvanizes Community Support for Health Centers

In celebrating this week, people are invited to support their local health centers through various activities such as fundraising or volunteering. These contributions ensure that these centers can continue doing their essential work – caring for everyone who walks through their doors, regardless of their ability to pay.
